How to write a Salesforce resignation letter? (Guidance + Samples)

What is a Resignation Letter?

Resigning from a job, regardless of the pretences, is a major life decision and should be taken seriously.

Some people might be tempted to quickly write a short notice or email resignation messages and move on, but having a formal resignation letter is worth further consideration. A resignation letter is an official letter sent by an employee to their employer giving notice they will no longer be working at the company. In other words, it’s an official form of quitting.

Why is it important to write a resignation letter?

A resignation letter lets you officially announce the termination of your job, and also provides important housekeeping information, like your last day and other details about your departure. Creating and submitting a professional resignation letter can have a lasting effect on how you are viewed by past and future colleagues and employers. What’s more, sending a resignation letter can help with getting a good reference further down the line, not to mention affecting your professional reputation.

But how do you write a good resignation letter? What should you include, and what kinds of resignation letter template should I use?

Salesforce Resignation letter structure

When you resign from your job, it’s important to resign gracefully and professionally. Here are the steps on how to write a resignation letter:

Step 1: Mention the Statement of Resignation

Begin your letter by stating your position, and the company. This might seem superfluous if you work at a small company and your boss knows you well, but since the letter is your official termination, it’s important to include. Then, quickly follow this information with a simple statement of your resignation.

Also, providing an end date in the first body paragraph is helpful, since that’s one of the first questions your employer is going to have.

Dear [Your Boss’ Name],

Please accept this letter as formal notification that I am resigning from my position as [position title] with [Company Name]. My last day will be [your last day—usually two weeks from the date you give notice].

Step 2: Show the gratitude to your Employer and highlight your time there

It’s nice for your employer to receive a thank you for the time and resources your Employer used to support your career growth in the resignation letter.

Take the time to consider how you’ve grown, or what you’ve appreciated most about your time at the company. Be as specific as possible in your job resignation letter- perhaps the company provided professional development opportunities, or maybe you’ve appreciated the climate the company fostered and the supportive atmosphere.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the knowledge and experience I have gained by working here.

I’ve greatly enjoyed and appreciated the opportunities I’ve had to [a few of your favorite job responsibilities], and I’ve learned [a few specific things you’ve learned on the job], all of which I will take with me throughout my career.

Step 3: Offer to support the transition process

Often, resignation letters will also offer to help in the transition, whether it be by recruiting or training a replacement. In this way, both the employee and the employer can leave the situation with closure and a sense of respect and amicability.

For example, you might include in your letter of resignation the offer to train a new employee during your final working days and/or be available to answer questions for a week or two after your departure.

Kindly let me know if I can be of any help during the transition of the job and help my replacement into the new employee’s role. [Mention that you will mentor the new person even after you get a new job].

Step 4: Provide your contact information

You can include your personal contact information in the letter of resignation, so it’s easy for the company to get in touch with you.

If possible, you can also include any non-company name and email address or other forms of contact information that you want to share. This is especially important if you are leaving right away.

I wish you and the staff all the very best and also look forward to staying in touch with you. You can email me anytime at [your email] or call me at [your number].
